Listen to a Scene on “Raining Men and Corpses”

As some of you may know, I am embarking on my first audiobook production. Below is a scene between Raina and Matthew in “Raining Men and Corpses.” Have a listen and let me know what you think.

Have to dart off, but listened to half of it. When I’m listening to audio books NOT narrated by the author, I “look” for the character portrayed by the narrator. For example, Louise Penny has a wonderful narrator whose voice makes me feel as though I’m inside the author’s very soul as she created her book. I feel THERE.

I adore your books, and really need to write reviews, but am reticent as I don’t feel articulate when faced with review writing….but my impression of this narrator is that pleasant as the voice is, it doesn’t invite me into the story the way reading your books always does. If I hadn’t a history of reading your writing, and this were my first introduction, I’d possibly stop listening, as I’m not captivated by the voice.

As your subtitle, above states, Chinese culture, hijinks, and murder…..I want to feel more culture in the voice. You need a youthful narrator, as Raina is young, but I feel as though the voice’s pitch needs to be different.

Gee, this might not exactly be helpful, but I hope it might be.

Keep up the great work, and you’ll get used to 2020. It’s all about your vision for the future. (Heehee, get it?)

Thanks for commenting, Granny Kathy. It’s hard to cast a narrator when we have already had Raina’s voice in our head after multiple books. Half the readers like the narrator, and half of them don’t. I guess we’ll have to see how the rest of the book turns out.
