After putting Raining Men and Corpses at the other ebook retailers for several weeks without making any headway, I decided to pull the book and make it exclusive to Amazon through their KDP Select program last month. It wasn’t a decision I make lightly because I do want more readers to have access to my book.
However, it was a business decision that made sense for my situation. My inventory is so small; it would take a huge dose of luck and/or advertising to even get readers to discover my book at the other retailers. Kindle Unlimited, on the other hand, would allow readers read my book without any financial cost.
The gamble has paid off. I’m now getting more borrows than I do sales. Though the royalties I get per book is much lower when someone borrows it, at least I don’t have to give the book away to get expand my readership.
Will I stay exclusive to Amazon forever? Probably not, but it makes managing updates much less work for me. And with a baby and a pre-schooler, easy is better for now.
Happy reading and thanks for visiting Anne R. Tan.
P.S. I’m halfway through writing the first draft of Book 2 of the Raina Sun series.
