Themes in Writing

I start with an idea, throw in a few main characters, and then work on the plot when I write. I rarely, if ever, consider the theme in my stories. However, my subconscious must have been working on the theme all this time while I’m actually trying to put words to the page.

I’m about 16% into drafting my second novel. And this morning I woke up realizing all three plot lines explore various aspects of abandonment. Isn’t writing a magical mistress? I’ve no idea my second novel would hit this theme trifecta. I can’t explain it, but boy do I appreciate it.

Once I get my rough draft down, I can start posting snippets of the second novel on this website.  Y’all can be in awe of my genius then. 🙂

Happy reading and thanks for visiting Anne R. Tan.
